Stream Entering is happy to announce that we have  long-term residential program.

Long-term residential Program is open to all practitioners. Participants will have a chance to live and serve at the monastery, to practice and train in mindfulness right within the community. Participants will receive guidance and support from a monastic mentor. The program emphasizes the mindfulness trainings and community living according to the Plum Village monastic tradition. This is an extraordinary opportunity to practice and to grow together alongside sisters, both monastic and lay. It will provide excellent training for anyone interested in Sangha building and community living.

Participants will live within the community and have the opportunity to take part in all community activities (unless restricted by work responsibilities). Participants should expect to remain at the monastery, except for emergencies, such as medical leave, or to support family, or during periods when the monastery is on break.

Service to the community will be offered in specific work areas depending on the experience of the participant and need of the community; flexibility is important since work assignments and practice schedules may change. Participants will meet with a mentor in order to receive practice guidance and to learn about living in a monastic community. Participants in the program normally live and practice together – the capacity to live in harmony with others is essential. Participants will normally spend about 20 hours a week serving the community – however this may vary depending on specific work needs of the community. There will also be a monastic lead in the area of service. It is necessary for the participant live, practice and serve in harmony with the community, which includes fully participating in the daily schedule .

At present, we do not have an online application process for long-term stay in our community. Stream Entering will review requests for long-term stays from anyone that has booked for a regular, two-week retreat and paid the full price for the initial booking.

You will be asked to write a letter of aspiration requesting to extend your stay with the community. Once accepted you will be asked to keep clear communication with the community through contact with your mentor or through periodic aspiration letters, sharing your growth in the practice, your difficulties, and any developments in your aspiration and engagement with community life.

We ask that long-term retreatants attend the community schedule and always go in the direction of developing harmony and connection with the community. As long as these basic requirements are met, your request for long-term stay will be granted. Your stay can be extended by two weeks or a month at a time.

If you come up against difficulties during your stay then you only need to kindly request the help of the sisters to learn more about how to adjust to life in our community which may differ from your past experience or expectations. You will be interacting every day with people from many cultures and countries. Only through your own experience can you truly know what community living is like. The Sisters and lay friends in Stream Entering are here to help you learn the art of living mindfully and appreciating the many wonders of life that are available in us and around us in the present moment.

You may request a discount on your accommodation after being accepted as a long-term. If you ask for a reduction in the contribution amount, please let us know the reasons, and how much you can contribute each month. Requests are reviewed on an individual basis and the amount of a requested reduction will be considered accordingly.
